1:A Pig From Djouke
As a way of alleviating poverty in Cameroon, a young girl in Netherlands, Djouke chooses the promotion of pig production as the best method. By donating pig feed and female piglets to new set of farmers each year to breed and then pass over the gift to another poor deserving farmer, Djouke has been able to assist over 100 farmers. She has been working with Atomba Titus Tegwi as her Cameroonian based local representative or project coordinator since 2007 working with village communities of the North West Region of Cameroon while aspiring to move further into other communities if her means can permit. The field report about "A Pig From Djouke"
2:Slaughter house Project
The Slaughter house project, conceived by members of the North West Pig Farmers Cooperative , was considered feasible and authorized for construction by the administration of the Bali Sub divisional council who handed the authorization for the operation to kick off on May 24th 2012. Considering pig production statistics within this region, it is to be a small scale operation that will set the pace and constitute a learning process for future similar large scale slaughter house operations. With the lack of funds by the pig cooperative to effectively take off, project number HBF 2012-079 Kameroen is an Assistance from Pum the Netherlands to enable the cooperative achieve its dream of marketing pigs through slaughter/sales of pork. It should be remarked that the coming of the raining season was earlier than predicted and the rains were torrential to the extend that some buildings were broken down and blocks destroyed. With this threat of the rains we feared starting construction especially as it takes weeks for sundry blocks to get dry and be ready for use. Because molding of blocks was not going to be possible and keeping all the money for the next building season was going to be challenging both to our donors and the local authorities who gave us the land to build on, we decided to start first with the foundation of the modified structure which was now agreed to include a section for the feed mill, a small meeting hall/office, and a feed store all facing the Bawock village market just some ten meters away. Some selected members were assigned to fill soil in the foundation to keep it level and get set for construction work, come next November 2013. This was done in April 2013. Work is now temporally suspended waiting for the appropriate time to kick off.Meantime pig farmers have as special assignment piglet multiplication and fattening in preparation for a sustainable supply of pigs for slaughtering and sales.
3:Replacement of cooperative truck
After two years of having the cooperative truck grounded it has now finally been sold to an interested non member of the pig cooperative who thinks he can successfully repair it after our own attempts to repair it failed. It has been replaced with a smaller truck that can carry just one tone of luggage. Members of the cooperative are now happy again after a long time without another service van. Feed and Pigs can now be transported as usual. The small truck will also assist the members during the construction of the Pig Slaughter House, a project that kicks off in November 2013 with the approach of the dry season. It is worth noting that the first truck was damaged because members thought that it could be used for public transport to generate some income for the cooperative but this vision failed woefully so the reason why in a meeting that took place in Bawock in September 2013, members decided that the new truck shall only render services to the cooperative and nothing out of that shall be accepted. Further more it was also resolved that only a member driver will be recruited to serve the cooperative society.4:Trainings
